About the Heart Chakra
The heart chakra sits at the structural midpoint of the seven-chakra system, and it carries the same role energetically: it is where the dense, body-bound chakras meet the airier, mind-and-spirit chakras above. The Sanskrit name Anahata means "unstruck", a reference to the kind of inner sound that has nothing hitting against it. The heart is where that quality lives. Rose quartz, green aventurine, malachite, and emerald are heart stones not because love is pretty, but because the work of the heart is rarely pretty. It is the work of staying open after being hurt, and choosing tenderness as a strategy rather than a weakness.
This center governs love in all its directions, for self, others, the world, and the past, along with grief, compassion, and forgiveness.
Signs the Heart Chakra is open
You can give without losing yourself, receive without feeling indebted, and grieve without collapsing. Compassion does not exhaust you because it includes you.
Signs of imbalance
Closed-off cynicism, over-giving until depletion, jealousy, a tightness in the chest, difficulty receiving compliments or help, lingering resentment that has lost its specific story.
Daily practices
- Lie on your back with rose quartz on the chest for ten minutes. Do nothing else.
- Write a letter to someone you have not forgiven. Do not send it. Burn or bury it with the stone.
- Pair heart-chakra crystals with breath that lengthens on the exhale.
- Keep a small heart stone in a pocket or bra near the chest during emotionally tender weeks.
